Month by month
Nyika in November
November is the pivot into the wet season proper, mild after dark and greening fast, weeks ahead of the orchid peak that follows in January.
If you only want the answer
November brings the rains back in earnest, 134 mm over 16 days, and posts the warmest nights anywhere on Nyika's calendar, 14.3°C, even as day temperatures ease slightly from October's peak.
November weather: the rains return
Rain jumps from October's 21 mm to 134 mm in November, spread across 16 days rather than 4, and the plateau's grassland starts turning green again within weeks. Day temperatures ease slightly to 24.8°C, still warm, while nights are the mildest anywhere on the yearly chart, 14.3°C, a full six degrees above July's coldest reading.
This is genuinely the pivot into the wet season proper: the block of easy, dry-season conditions that ran from May through October is over, and the four months of orchid season that define January through April are only weeks away.
The warmest nights of the year
That 14.3°C night-time average is worth planning around: November is the one month you can leave the heaviest cold-weather kit at home for evening activities, even while carrying wet-weather gear for the day. Roan, eland and zebra are still findable on the open ridges, though the grass is now growing back and sightings take slightly more effort than in September or October.
The first wildflowers of the coming orchid season appear this month, ahead of the full display that builds from January, and grassland birds begin showing early signs of the breeding activity that peaks in the wet months proper.
Coming before the crowds return
November falls outside CAWS's two published Chelinda rates, so as with the other unconfirmed months, ask directly rather than assume a figure. What is clear from the pattern is that November sits well below the July-to-October high-season pressure on the small number of Chelinda beds.
One concrete tip: pack for both extremes in the same day, wet-weather gear for building afternoon storms and a light layer rather than a heavy one for evenings, since November is the mildest month after dark all year.
