Lodges & camps in Nyika National Park

Every lodge, camp and campsite in and around the park, from simple campsites to exclusive-use camps on the game circuits. Independently listed, and nobody can pay to rank higher.

Accommodation on the plateau is concentrated at Chelinda, run under concession by Central African Wilderness Safaris, a Malawian operator established in 1987. Under the 2023 co-management agreement between Malawi's DNPW and the Peace Parks Foundation, 25 percent of park revenue is earmarked for community development around the park, so your fees and beds contribute directly to that.

Who owns it

Nyika has no privately owned lodges inside the park. Both Chelinda properties are operated under concession by Central African Wilderness Safaris, and the only independent option, the Mushroom Farm, sits outside the park at the Livingstonia end of the trek.

Chelinda Lodge

Upmarket log-cabin lodge · Chelinda, in hagenia woodland at the heart of the plateau

The flagship of the plateau: timber cabins in a stand of hagenia woodland with open grassland rolling away in every direction. The full-board-plus rate covers the activity menu that makes Nyika worth the journey, from spotlit night drives to trout water. Evenings end at a fireplace, because this is one of the few safari lodges in Africa where you genuinely need one.

Chelinda Camp

Mid-range chalets and en-suite rooms · On a dam bank near Chelinda, backed by pine forest

The simpler sister property: chalets on a dam bank with pine forest behind, sharing Chelinda's dining and bar. You get the same drives, the same trout dams and the same night-drive leopards as lodge guests, in a more modest bed. For self-planners it is the practical mid-range way onto the plateau.

Chelinda Campsite

Self-catering campsite · Near Chelinda headquarters

A self-catering campsite near the Chelinda headquarters that appears in older guides and traveller reports, but for which no operator, rate or current status is published. Listed because it probably exists, flagged because nobody officially confirms it. Email CAWS before you count on it, and pack for nights that can touch freezing.

Juniper Forest campsite

Bush campsite · Remote plateau, away from Chelinda

A name that surfaces in trek notes and older itineraries, attached to one of the plateau's evergreen forest pockets, with no official page, price or operator behind it. If a remote night away from Chelinda appeals, raise it when you book and let the people on the ground tell you whether it is currently usable.

The Mushroom Farm

Backpacker eco-lodge · Livingstonia escarpment, above Lake Malawi, at the trek's far end

Not a park lodge but the place most trekkers sleep when the three-day walk from Chelinda ends: an eco-minded backpacker lodge hanging off the Livingstonia escarpment with Lake Malawi far below. It coordinates trek logistics from the far end, which makes it the practical bookend to Nyika's signature hike.

Every price on this page is in US dollars.

Rates are from Central African Wilderness Safaris' own 2026 rate information, gathered July 2026, and from operator websites. Nyika publishes very little pricing. No figure means enquire. Always confirm directly before you travel.

Facilities and activities come from each property's own website, read in July 2026. We only record what that property's own page states. A blank means we could not check it, not that it is missing. Filtering on a facility shows only what we confirmed, and tells you how many places we could not check.
